No funny business today. Every March, swarm of bands, companies and filmmakers descends upon Austin looking to make a name for themselves, connect with their markets or flat-out rawk face! I am personally excited about the music events. Every year there’s someone that takes me by surprise. A few years ago it was The Hush Sound and Dead to Fall. I hope the same happens this year. Anyway, here’s a few peepz I’m excited to see.
Wednesday is going to be a pretty brutal day. The Funeral Pyre are a death metal band hardened by the beautiful weather of Southern California. They’ll be playing at the Mohawk at 9:40. If you wanna get brutal wif me, you can at Emo’s which will play host to one of the greatest hardcore bands our generation has seen, Dillinger Escape Plan. I can’t fucking wait. Then it’s to the Amsterdam Cafe with me to catch Kiss Kiss and The Forecast, both of which are drastically different from the Funeral Pyre and Dillinger Escape Plan.
I’ll be working the SXSW Trade Show on Thursday, so I’ll be missing the Texas Metal Showcase during the day. Iwrestledabearonce will be there. Thursday night seems like slim pickin’s to me except for Pattern is Movement at the Mohawk at midnight and The Fall of Troy at Opal’s on 6th at 1am. I can’t make both, but I’m sure I’ll be at the FoT show. I think The Fall of Troy are everything that’s right with music. Their use of complex rhythms, melodies, chord progression and flare make them so fun to listen to and watch. Unfortunately, the band has decided to break up after this tour.
Friday is going to be jam packed. Gotta hit the Beauty Bar. Murder By Death is doing an acoustic set, and folky outfit the Low Anthem will be playing later at the HearYa.com showcase. Also, later in the day, brutalists Mychildren Mybride and Goatwhore will be playing at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival Does Austin at Emo’s. At night I have some choices to make. It’s between seeing Murder By Death again or channeling my inner-hipster by catching An Horse and Local Natives at the Galaxy Room at the Backyard. Later on I have my MUST SEE of the night, and that’s Native. They are amazing. Wrestling Moves has become one of my favorite albums of the year thus far. Afterward, I have to decide between Sum 41… whom I still love, and dancey pants Foxy Shazam, and then somehow make my way to Attack! Attack!. I really wanna catch Attack! Attack and Evergreen Terrace’s showcase because that’s where the metal God squad is going to be, and that’s always cause for a good time. There will definitely be a lot of running around on Friday night. I might just decide to sit around one place. Who knows? I have lofty goals.
Saturday I get to catch my favorite band at the moment and that’s La Dispute at Emo’s at the Alternative Press Day Party. Ruiner, Circa Survive and Sum41 will be there as well. I will wrap up my night for sure at the Galaxy Room to catch Joan of Arc and Japandroids, after trying to catch some of the Fat Wreck Chords Showcase at Emo’s Annex.
So, hit me with any recommendations. I’m open to pretty much anything. Those of you who know how to contact me through phone should, and those that don’t know me but want to through me a recc should do so through TWITTER. http://www.twitter.com/tehdago
