As much as people want to kill it, print ain’t dead. When I work on print materials, my first goal is to communicate information as plainly and clearly as possible. The worst thing in the world is having a beautiful document that makes no sense.
For decades, Trust Talk was a monthly newsletter that published business-focused articles on best practices and the latest in BBB news and developments. In 2017, BBB’s marketing team relaunched Trust Talk as a magazine. The purpose was to deliver more meaningful and effective business-focused content to our audience made up of a majority of small businesses and to add value to their BBB Accreditation and help them grow.
We focused on making both our content and design purposeful and clear, useful and direct. We moved to a bi-annual schedule for the publication so we could plan, create, and execute the best magazine possible for BBB Accredited Businesses. For content topics, we used surveys of BBB Accredited Businesses and feedback from stakeholders to implement a strategy that placed BBB as a leader in business resources for continued growth and ethically running a business.
Our first issue was a smashing success. Both our board and our BBB Accredited Businesses were ecstatic about the new publication. Instagram posts and emails flowed in from the most important BBB stakeholders. Trust Talk Magazine’s first issue has also won several awards from marketing/design organizations.
