In 80 minutes or less

Paul Anka said, “Breaking up is like totally depressing and super hard,” or something to that extent. Truer words have never been spoken. I checked.

I often use music to help me through tough situations. I’m pretty sure both Nirvana’s Unplugged in New York and The Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream ushered me through severe phases of early-teen angst. I remember in 2008 I REALLY got into a genre called power violence (Circle Takes the Square, pg. 99, Suis la Lune). Things were bleak. It really doesn’t make much sense to me now, but I was very upset in 2008. Nothing was going my way. I listened to tons of mewithoutYou, Get Up Kids, Braid and Cap’n Jazz then too. Those guys helped me out quite a bit. I sometimes use albums to remind me of how I felt at that moment. Right now, it’s tons of Maritime and An Horse. You be the judge of what that means.

Anyway, I made a playlist today comprised of songs past and present which I am 100% certain will help anyone get out of their post-breakup funk in 80 mins or less:

Sadness: Get it over with…:

Anger: Just let it out:

Let it all out:

Maybe come up with a nickname for her:

Being alone is okay:

There may be hope for you yet:

  • Hope – Descendents

Pick yourself up:

Now, go have some fun:

If anyone wants me to drop this CD by, I will. Anything for a friend.
